Well the Pens Nation CMS is finally complete minus a few tweaks here and there that I may make along the way somewhere to add new sections to the site and members area, but as of now it is complete. Now that it is done I have decided that I won't be packaging it up and releasing it to the public for the simple fact that I don't want to write an installer or any documentation on how it all works, and I'm not too sure what the demand is for a sports related CMS.
Next up on the Pens Nation agenda will be to optimize the site on my end and limit the number of actual php pages on the site for easier admin usage, and then maybe edit the htaccess file to create clean url's. There are not any plans in the near future for any huge additions to the site, maybe just clean up the Admin area so if need be someone else can log in and edit things when I may be unable to.
April 4th, 2009 / 0 Comments / Tags: Pens Nation, CMS, PHPMy little side project has turned into more of a daily thing now that the hockey season is underway. The site is built using a CMS that was built almost entirely by me the only thing that I used outside help on was the registration/login script because the one I had written originally was not complex enough for what I required and I did not have the time to go back and rewrite it to fit my needs. So I went on the hunt for a little help and I found something that I could implent into my exisiting script to achieve the result I was looking for.
Each page on PensNation is built dynamically from a database, and most if not all are what you call search engine friendly, with different titles and descriptions that are dynamic to the content of the page. The previous load time issue has been taken care of since the flash header was phased out and the database was cleaned up from the mess that was created during the build. There has also been numerous new features added throughout the site. Now the only thing to finish on the site is the members, the area is currently 75% done at the moment, I hope to have this completed by no later than Thanksgiving. But in all I think the site itself is coming together rather nicely.
November 7th, 2008 / 0 Comments / Tags: PensNation, PHP, SEOWell it has been awhile since my last post, mainly because something with my chryp installation on the site had been messed up along the way and I had not had any free time to work on fixing the problem. As far as I can tell whatever the problem was it has been fixed after the re-install.
So back to what I have been working on. PensNation is starting to take off there has been a redesigned layout since my last update on the subject. The new layout is more efficient and more easy to add and remove sections of any page. I have also completed some mock-up logos for the local bar Milestone.
These have been submitted to the owner and I am just waiting on a response and some feed back from him.
November 7th, 2008 / 0 Comments / Tags: PensNation, MilestoneSorry for the prolonged absence I've been busy working on getting PensNation up and running and some elements took more time than anticipated. There is still some work to be done on the site but it is coming into form and should be completed or in what ill call user ready stages in the next week or two. The only issue I have a concern about to this point is load time on some pages. There are some pages that make so many different calls to the database and need to be slimmed down a little to stop a lag that may occur from page to page. I also added the feature to make comments to not only the blog posts but to the RSS feeds as well, not only does this give the user more use of the site but it also makes the site more search engine friendly by giving the possibility of more search results which in the end will result in more users to the site.
About a month ago I involved myself in another project this one is for a local bar called Milestone. The project involves the creation of a logo for the bar and sometime down the road a website. But first things first is the logo and this is proving to be harder than I had originally thought it would be. So if everything goes as planned you will see my logo on the fron of the building in the near future.
