Site Back

The site is finally back up and running with what to seems to be no glitches in the database. So now I finally get to test out my new pensnation layout and some of the scripts i wrote for it. So far I have a RSS script that reads feeds into the database so they can be pulled and sorted into one feed and I have the ability to remove any duplicate feeds that may come up. There is also a blogging engine in the works to allow me and other to make posts on the page as well as allow comments from other users. Anyways I have some work to get done being that I missed 3 days of server time, but in the mean time you can check out what is done so far. http://www.pensnation.com

Note:  None of the PHP scripts have been implemented into the site yet they are still in what I am going to call the pre-production process.

Where Are We Now?

Well after much debate I've decided to take on another project, it was about 3 weeks ago when my sister came to me and asked me to look at the website for her work. So I naturally Google'd it to find its URL, and wow that is all i have to say about that (see here). Now granted it looks like this site was built in 1999 and hasn't been touched since so I'll give it that. So since I've kinda put off work on PensNation while I let the wounds heal and I take a break from looking at the extensive code I've written and used or written and tossed out for this site because it just didn't work the way I wanted it to. I decided what is the worst that could happen, let's just give this a shot it shouldn't be to hard or demanding.

But back the subject of the kennel klub website, I thought to myself that this could be something new and rather easy, because most of the information is already there so being the great "english major" that I am doesn't have to actually make up or write up any major content for the site. So i started by looking around for some ideas on which could get started, this didn't work so well so on came trial number 2 which involved "grass" [the kind you walk on and cut with a lawnmower]. I had come across this picture that of grass at almost eye level a couple weeks ago that I had really liked and so here we are this is what I am going to center this website around "grass". Now all I need is some pictures to go with the grass I can't be biased and use pictures of my wonderful dog Snuggles or cat Pounce so I must find a picture of an unrelated animal picture to use. This was definitely the hardest part because the sun light never seemed to be in the rest place for it to look right in the header with my wonderful grass, but low and behold I came across this picture of this wonderful black puppy sticking its tongue out.

The navigation bar of this site is a whole different story this is something that is supposed to be easy for anyone who has basic knowledge of HTML and JavaScript to edit and change. But being that i used fireworks to create this there is a ton of code that is imported into the HTML to make this work so this is most likely going to change either into a different type of navbar or some type of JavaScript function that get called to build the navbar when the page loads.

On to the body of the page, well this was/is one of the easier parts of the page since I have learned most of the ins and outs of positioning in CSS. CSS is in my eyes the greatest thing ever, it allows you to do so many things that weren't possible before its conception. Back to the topic at hand the main page has the 2 column feature to it with the hours on the right and all the other info on the left, I haven't decided if this is going to be like this on the rest of the pages, most likely it won't unless I hear otherwise. So the body consists of a couple div id's to set where everything should be located and inside those div's are a ton of paragraph tags with different classes, that are universal throughout the site but they all aren't used on every page. I have it set in a kind of hierarchy that moves down in a type of h1-h6 fashion but instead of using h tags I decided to give different class names, you know easier for me to remember what does what. Now this site is currently hosted on my servers for testing purposes, but if it were to remain there I wouldn't for see a problem seeing that their site probably doesn't generate mounds of traffic.

This is all I am going to write for now being that I have to get to work, but I will be back sometime soon with some more updates, in the mean time you can check out what I have done so far here: The Kennel Klub
